Another factor that has to be kept in mind, especially by older people, is the proximity and convenience of local shops. Some of the holiday developments or ‘urbanisations’ can be empty and lack community in the winter months and often require a car journey of 15 minutes to local amenities. Traditional properties for sale in Spain may lack some peace and quiet but they are usually located within a year round community and they can be much more affordable.
Communications are generally excellent with most areas being connected by new motorways. In the hills high-level bridges carry these roads over deep valleys and sometimes through tunnels. Journey times between population centers, airports, etc. are dramatically reduced compared with a few years ago.
